Harapanahalli community was established in the year 1990, Franciscan sisters of the immaculate was invited by the diocese of Bellary Bishop Rev. Ambrose yeddanapalli Ofm, to take care of leprosy patients of 3 Talukas Agribomnahalli, Hadagali and Harapanahalli.Stella Molla was first superior of the community, Sr.Cecily Varghese , Sr.MariammaThumma , Sr. Nirmala.S and Sr. Saleth Mary being first community members , due to poor economic conditions and unavailability of Educational centers , sisters felt need to start a boarding for economically poor children and to work for promotion of women in the area.
In the year 2006 the Diocese of Bellary handed over the harapanahalli parish mission to the Diocese of Shimoga, sisters found the need to start a basic education to the children of poor economic background so the sisters requested the diocese to start a nursery which is continuing today as a well-establishedschool.
In the year 2009 the number of leprosy patients have reduced and the sisters felt the need to take care of general population through a general hospital specially the maternal and child health care at the same time continued to serve the leprosy patients.
